Q. 1 In a School with 600 students, the average of the boys is 12 years and that of the girls is 11 years if the average age of the school is 11 years 9 months then the number of girls in the school is?

Solution

Let the number of girls be X

Then number of boys  = 600 – X

Then 11³/4 * 600 = 11 X + 12 ( 600 – X)

X = 7200 – 7050

X = 150 Ans

Q. 2 The Average Marks of a students in 10 papers are 80, if the highest and lowest score are not considered the average 81. If his highest score is 92, find the lowest score?

Solution

Total marks of 10 papers = 80 * 10 = 800

Total marks of 8 papers = 81 * 8 = 648

Total marks of two papers = 800 – 648

= 152

If the highest score is 92 then the lowest

Total score is = 152 – 92

= 60 Ans

Q. 3 A man spends Rs 750 on an average during first 8 months. During the next 4 months  he spends Rs 680 per month. He took loan of Rs 320 during the year and paid Rs 600 for LIC Premimum. Find his monthly Average Income?

Solution

 
Expenditure for first 8 months  = 6000  = 750 * 8

Expenditure for next 4 months

= 2720 ( 680* 4)

LIC  premium  paid  = 600

Total expenditure on a year  = 9320

Month’s average expenditure  =  9320/12 = 776.66

Loan taken  a year = 320

Monthly average = 320/12 = 26.66

Monthly average income

= 776.66 – 26.66 = 750

Q. 4 The Average salary per month of 30 employees in a company is Rs 4000 if the managers salary is added, the average salary increase to Rs 430. What is the salary of the manager?

Solution

Given average salary of 30 members  4000

Added one member salary  = 30 + 1 = 4300

The salary of the managers is  =  (31 * 4300) –  (30 * 4000)

133300 – 120000

= 13300 Ans

Q. 5 Three years ago the average age of family of 5 members was 17 years. A baby having been born, the average age of the family is the same today. The present age of the baby is?

Solution

Total age of 5 members, 3 years ago

=   17 * 5  = 85 years

Total Age of  5 members  now

=   85 + ( 3 *5)

85 + 15 = 100 years

Total Age of 6 members now  = 17 * 6  = 102 years

The age of baby  = 102 – 100

=  2 years

Q. 6  A motorist travels to a place 150Km away at an average speed of 50 km per hour and returns at 30 km per hour. His average speed for the whole journey in km per hour is?

Solution

 

Given X = 50, Y = 30

Average speed  = 2XY/ (X + Y)

(2 * 50 * 30)/(50 + 30)

= 3000/80   = 37.5 km/hr

Q. 7 The Average weight of 50 balls is 2 lbs. If the weight of the container be included, the average weight will increase by 0.05 lbs, the weight of the container is?

Solution

Given averge weight of 50 balls = 2 lbs

Included container averge is ( 50 + 1)

Increase of = 0.05  = 2.05 lbs

The weight of the container is

= 51 * 2.05 -  50 * 2

Given averrge is 61

= 104. 55 – 100

4.55 lbs Ans

Q. 8 The average of first five multiples of 3 is ?

Solution

The five multiples of 3 is 3, 6, 9, 12, 15

(n + 1)/ 2  = ( 5 + 1)/ 2   = 6/2  =  3^rd term

Here 3^rd term is 9 Ans

Q. 9 The Average age of groups of 10 students is 15 years. When 5 more students joined the average age rose by 1 year. The average age of the new groups of students is ?

Solution

Given average weight of 50 balls  = 2 lbs

Included container averge is ( 50+1)

= increase of  0.05

= 2. 05

The weight of the container is

51 * 2.05 – 50 * 2

Given averge is 61

104.55 – 100

4. 55 lbs

Q. 10 Three math classes X, Y & Z take an algebra test. The average score of class X is 83. The average score of class Y is 76. The average score of class Z is 85. The average score of class X & Y is 79 and average score of class Y & Z is 81. What is the average score of classes X, Y & Z?

Solution

Let the number of student in classes X, Y & Z be a, b & c respectively then total score of

X =  83 a, Y =  76b, & Z = 85c

And  (83 a + 76b)/ (a + b)

=  7 a   =>   4a  = 3b

(76 b + 85c)/ (b + c)   =   81  =>  4 c = 5 b

ab    = 4/3 a, c  = 5/3 a

average score of X, Y & Z

(83 a + 76 b  + 85 c)/ ( a + b + c) = 978/12  = 81.5 ans

Q. 11 The average of 50 numbers is 38. If two numbers  are 45 and 55 the average of the remaining numbers is?

Answer 

 

The total sum of 48 numbers

= (50 * 38) – ( 45 + 55)

1900  - 100

= 1800

Average  = 1800/48 = 37.5 Ans
