Q. 1 If 5 men and 9 women can do a piece of work in 19 days, 3 men and 6 women will do the same work in how many days?

Solution


5 M & 6 W => 19 days

5 M = 9 M

Formula m1d2  = m2d2

5m * 19 = ( 3m + 6w) * d2

5m * 19  = (3m + 5/9*6)* d2

95m  * 9 = 57m * d2

95 *9/57 = 15 days

Q. 2 The Ratio of work efficiency of A & B are 2: 5, together they complete the work in 30 days then in how many days B alone complete the work.


Solution

Short Tricks

Total work is     A+ B = 30

And total Efficiency is  = 7

Then we calculate total work that is

=    30 * 7   = 210

Then B Complete  the work in  = 210/5 = 42 Days Ans.

Q. 3   A can a piece of work in 10 days & B can do the same piece of work in 20 days then find how many days A & B Complete the work together.


Solution

A can do the piece of work in – 10 Days

B    ------------------           = 20 Days

First take the L.C.M of 10 & 20 that is 20 then

A ‘s work is  = 20/10 = 2

B ‘ work is  = 20/20  = 1

A + B  work is  = 2 + 1 = 3

Then

A + B -------------------     =  20/3 = 6  2/3 Days Ans.

Q. 4  A does 4/5th of a work in 20 days. After some time B joined and they together finish the remaining work in 3 days. How many days B alone would take the complete work ?

Solution

Whole work is done by A in 20 * 5/4 = 25 days

Now ( 1 – 4/5)  = 1/5 work is done by A & B in 3 days

Whole work will be done by A & B in 3 * 5 = 15 days

A’s days work = 1/25

(A + B)’s 1 days work = 1/15

B’s 1 day’s work

= 1/15 – 1/25 = 4/150  

= 2/75

So B alone would do the work in

75/2 = 37 1/3 days

Q. 5 A, B and C together can complete a piece of work in 10 days. All the three strated working tighter and after 4 days A left. Then B & C together completed the work in 10 more days. A alone can complete the work in how many days.
Solution 
Work done by A, B and C in 4 days
=  1/10 * 4  = 2/5
Remaining work
= 1 – 2/5 = 3/5
Now 3/5 work is done by B & C in 10 days.
Whole work will be done by B & C in 10 * 5/3 = 50/3 days


Q. 6 A can do a piece of work in 40 days. He works for 8 days then finished in 16 days. How long will they together take to complete the work.


Solution

Work done by A in 8 Days

= 1/40 * 8 =  1/5

Remaining work ( 1- 1/5) = 4/5

Now 4/5 work is done by B in 16 days

Whole work will be done by B in 16* 5/4 = 20 days

A’s 1 day work = 1/40

B’s 1 day work  = 1/20

(A + B ) 1 day work = 1/40 + 1/20 = 3/40

Hence A & B will together complete the work in

= 40/3 = 13 1/3

Q. 7  A & B can together finish a work in 30 days. They worked together for 20 days and then B left . After another 20 days, A Finished the remaining work. In how many days A alone can finish the Job?


Solution

( A + B)’s 20 days work  = 1/30*20  = 2/3

Remaining work = ( 1 – 2/3) = 1/3

Now, 1/3 work is done by A in 20 days.

Whole work will be done by A in 20 * 3 = 60 days Ans.

Q. 8  X and Y can do a piece of work in 20 days and 12 days respectively. X started the work alone and then after 4 days Y joined him till the completion of the work. How long did the work last ?

Solution

Work done by X in 4 days

= 1/20 * 4 = 1/5

Remaining work (1 – 1/5) = 4/5 

( X + Y)’s 1 day work = 1/20 + 1/12 = 8/60 = 2/15

So 2/15 work is done by X 7 Y in 1 day

So 4/5 work is done by X & Y in 15/2 * 4/5 = 6 days

Hence total time taken  = 6 +4 = 10 days ans



Q. 9 A and B can do a piece of work in 30 days, while B & C can do the same piece of work in 24 days and C & A in 20 days. They all together for 10 days then B & C left. How many days more will a take to finish the work?


Solution

2 ( A + B + C) ‘s 1 day’s work

= ( 1/30 + 1/24 + 1/20) = 15/120 = 1/8

 ( A + B + C) ‘ s 1 day the work = 1/16

 Work done by A, B & C in 10 days

10/16 = 5/8

 Remaining work (1 – 5/8) = 3/8

 A’s 1 day work is done = (1/16 – 1/24) = 1/48

 Now 1/48 work is done by A in 1 day

 48 * 3/8 = 18 days Ans.

Q . 10 A can finish a work in 24 days, B in 9 days and C in 12 days. B & C start the work but are forced to leave after 3 days. The Remaining work was done by A in?

Solution

(B + C) ‘s 1 day work = (1/9 + 1/12) = 7/36

Work done by B & C in 3 days  = 7/36* 3 = 7/12

Remaining work = 1 – 7/12 = 5/12

Now 1/24 work is done by A in 1 day

So 5/12 work is done by A in 24 * 5/12 = 10 days
